We have a new PLUS tutorial from Tomasz Opasinski. You can see his work at his portfolio site. A few months ago when he was working on the "I Am Legend" posters, he came up with some simple techniques that are very helpful when demolishing all sorts of structures. He's created a PLUS tutorial that details this process.
Demolition Made Easy in Photoshop
The tutorial is available as a download package through your PSDTUTS Plus membership. The download includes the HTML tutorial files, and the layered PSD as well. Below is the Final Image Preview. We've included the shot of the starting photo as well to give you an idea of the demolition involved.

PSDTUTS Plus Membership
As you know, we run a premium membership system here called PSDTUTS Plus that costs $9 a month (or $22 for 3 months!) which gives members access to the PSD files for tutorials as well as periodic extra tutorials, like this one! If you're a member you can log in and download the tutorial. If you're not a member, you can of course join today!
And just in case anyone feels like discussing why we have a premium system, read this post! :-)

From the final pic, it seems interesting, maybe I should become Plus ..
DStevenson August 19th
Been a + member for several months. I drop it because of funds and you do this? UGH! Looks like a fantastic tut! I’m very curious.
Carl August 19th
Hmmmm, I heard about this tut a while back. Looks really interesting, maybe it’s time to try the plus membership out for a change.
godonholiday August 19th
oh yes! this looks quality.
just a note on the plus membership: I think you can cancel it whenever you want, so you can always just try it for a month?
Skellie August 19th
Looks amazing, and I’m loving the choice for this celebrity tut!
@ godonholiday: you can cancel it after an hour if you want… it’s easy through PayPal (though you probably want to get the full month out of it!)
godonholiday August 19th
Agreed Skellie.
crazyhunk August 19th
the final effect is mind blowing…..
I shud be goin plus now fro sure
Craigsnedeker August 19th
Amazing!
Alen August 19th
Again nice effect tutorial.
Jonathan Solichin August 19th
Looks like an awesome tutorial. The broken part of the building are from another image yes? Instead of guessing maybe I should just join psdtuts haha. Good job!
godonholiday August 19th
his personal work on his site is top notch!
Ruben August 19th
Omfg… I need PLUS.
ViniMan August 19th
Wow, that’s one helpful tutorial for everyone. Even if your already pretty advanced in Photoshop. After reading this tutorial I really think everyone who is a regular on PSDTUTS -and doesn’t have a PLUS-account- really has to consider buying or winning one. Thanks PSDTUTS.
koen buysse August 19th
hell yeah ! this is that kind-a tutorial that says: so, you still think a plus membership isn’t that useful huh ?
just to prove you wrong….
damn! that looks amazing !
Arno August 19th
why do they have to make this for only members
rafael August 19th
Seems pretty good. Unfortunately, I won’t have the chance to prove it since I don’t have a membership.

This one looks like it’s worth the money. I’ve seen this technique used a lot.
loswl August 19th
That looks craaaazy:oo……makes my mouth water.!! uum
james August 19th
That’s not how those buildings would look structurally if the skin was removed. I guess it does the visual trick even if its not accurate.
george August 19th
more tutorial please Tomasz Opasinski
:):):):):)

Thats a really cool effect!
Ignacio August 19th
This is the first time I hear about Tomasz Opasinski… he’s awesome! I’m wondering if all the jobs he did are all officials. I really like how he work, never use the same technique in the designs. Perfect. Thanks for sharing some of your techniques. I’m a Plus Member, but if you’re reading this and your are not a Plus Member, you should, this tut worth it. (Sorry abt my english)
Topher Fangio August 19th
This effect looks awesome…but I must say that care should be taken when showing a damaged building. You can see some of the areas that are supposed to be damaged, but have a perfect half-of-a-window. Still a great looking tut!
Joefrey Mahusay August 19th
Great photo manipulation.
Mark Abucayon August 19th
wow that is awesome I like the final effect looks interesting tut.
insic August 19th

Jinsey August 19th
why you only create this interesting stuff for Plus member?
Don’t you know that Sharing knowledge is one of the immense values that we should spread in internet?

i really like comments like:
- “Hmmmm, I heard about this tut a while back. Looks really interesting, maybe it’s time to try the plus membership out for a change.”
or: “oh yes! this looks quality.just a note on the plus membership: I think you can cancel it whenever you want, so you can always just try it for a month?”
they sound sooo natural.
insic August 19th
@Jinsey… maybe you need to review/read the previous post here about the plus membership so that you are enlightened. lol
Ciaran August 20th
agghhh I really wanna see this tutorial but I cant afford to sign up!!!!
Tom Ross August 20th
Great final effect! The lighting is amazing, and I can’t really think how you would achieve such a great demolition effect. Nice work
godonholiday August 20th
sorry if my writing doesn’t sound natural? I was just trying to reply to those who keep posting about how they can’t get a Plus account, I was suggesting that they save up and just get it for one month and then cancel it. Do you see…. you can get ALL you want for $9 this is not a pitch on behalf of PSDTUTS its a suggestion to stop the crying.
godonholiday August 20th
Jinsey - Are you joking?!!! How many FREE tutorials are there on this site? how many Plus ones?
Stanley Parrish August 20th
I have got to go plus
~tomasz August 20th

DWAM! August 21st
DAAAAAAAMN! This is awesome……too bad I dont have plus, I need to get it :/
bman August 21st
One thing I noticed after downloading this.. he is missing the “destruction image” from his tutorial.. I am not one to just download the PSD and look at the steps.. I like to reproduce the effect.. hands on kind of learning.. but he is missing the source file for the “demolished” photo file. I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet.
bman August 21st
Disregard that comment.. it’s late.. and I’m apparently blind.. the link to the image is in the HTML file provided.
Ali August 22nd
Awesome final result!
nfaiths August 23rd
Is anyone reading this ‘n’ wondering how good PSD TUTS PLUS FORM is?? It’s worth my quarterly fee alone. Great tut… Luv it… money well spent. THANK YOU SEAN HODGE… Ledge!!
Qbrushes August 25th
looks like something from the movie Cloverfield.
Tom August 27th
It’s so incredible result so that I just worry it’s so easy as it’s described… ?o?
Joe August 28th
Looks like something out of Gears of War.
tits August 30th

Scoville August 31st

mammal September 4th
still for payin´ for this….. keep workin….eeeeverybody will pay U i do not like a point of view like that pal…
WaxingArtistic September 4th
I check out this site ever couple of months, I like the final but I won’t be getting a plus. That’s no slam, just a statement of fact. This is still a great site.
Oh, one more thing, I really wish people would stop trying to be all “edgy” when they make their portfolio sites. After 10 seconds realizing it was made using a horrible flash design. I wish more “edgy” flash designers would look up the definition of usability.
stitchemup September 15th
