We're always open to suggestions for tutorials here at PSDTUTS. In fact tutorial writers often ask for ideas for what to write tutorials on! We can't promise every suggestion will be used, but if you'd like to make a request/suggestion, then please do so here in the comments.
Just place a link to the image you're interested in seeing tutorialised and a brief description.

I was looking for ways to submit a tutorial idea this very weekend but couldn’t find one. I have an image that could prove quite challenging, but not a link to it. Can I send by email somehow, with a description?

As a new reader, I found you guys doing a search a while back on Photoshop tutorials, and I must say that I have stayed ever since, I love your tutorials.
Here is one that that I would love to learn how to do, “How to create a WEB 2.0 Site Template / Layout / ”
I am not artistically inclined at all and I am just amazed at the stuff you guys do. Great Job!

I would love to see a good carbon fiber tutorial. I know there are plenty out there, but they never seem to fully capture the crosshatch pattern that carbon fiber actually has.
To me, this is carbon fiber:
http://www.burtmanindustries.com/images/prodimages/pillarsun8.jpg
But most tutorials give an effect like this:

You think you can reproduce the first one?

I’m back with two more suggestions:
A good leather texture, again, done before, but never gives a good quality effect like this:

Or a different take on brushed aluminum, similar to Apple’s products, like this:

Hi there. Could you show me how to add angel wings to someone in a picture? Preferably on a light background. I’ve been trying using photoshop brushes and it looks too fake. Proper stock images are hard to find plus usually look weird on the edges or don’t fit the lighting.
Thanks.

First let me just say your tutorials are absolutely kickass. I’ve been looking at the same old boring useless photoshop tutorials for years, but I’ve been reading for the past few months and I’m glad there’s finally a place for high quality, useful tutorials. Great job.
I’m a Flash developer of many years now, and I thought it would be cool to have a Flash tutorial site like this. I know you guys run flashden and I wouldn’t want to take away from that, but I know there are a lot of developers that could benefit from a Flash tutorial site that was of the same calibre as psdtuts.com. I have registered flatuts.com to keep the domain naming convention and to ensure nobody else takes it. And I’m not looking to sell it for sickening amounts of money, that’s not what this is about, I would gladly give it to you at no charge even.
Anyways, that’s my suggestion, a high quality Flash tutorial site, and I would love to be a part of it. Sorry if the post is too long.

Hey, Dy..did you notice the tutorial of a few days ago which includes some cool techniques about this style :
http://psdtuts.com/tutorials-effects/seriously-cool-photoshop-explosion-effect/
Also, try this tutorial of No Pattern aka Chuck Anderson himself for the high-quality ComputerArts mag:
http://www.computerarts.co.uk/tutorials/2d__and__photoshop/painting_with_light
And i guess most of the colors he makes using gradient overlays or selected a rectangle and then brush some
soft brushes on one side of the rectangle, to create a lightbeam.
And for most of the flowing, round lines/shapes he’s probadly using the pen tool.
My final thought on this is you might using some different blending modes for the layes.
Stephan Lenting
March 6th, 2008
Hey Brandon, for the nice drawn-by-a-kid look, you should go sketching on paper and scan your sketches.
Then go in Photoshop (or maybe Illustrator) and use the pen tool to go round your letters to make the shapes you’ve sketched.
I guess it would be smart to try to sketch similar letters such as the examples you’ve linked, just for practice.
As far as i know, this is the most logical way…

Hello, Collis!
I would like to try writing tutorials for psdtuts. I have some good ideas; in particular about writing a tut on Gustav Klimt style artwork I’m currently working on. I think it’s right to ask you first whether you would like such a subject. May be I should show you the result first?
You know, there is a sense in making “offer a tutorial” page with users’ comments, so that people willing to share their skills will know their ideas are wellcome

March 10th, 2008
Collis, could you please ensure that when you do accept a tutorial from a designer, and if they use a single font or multiple fonts, that they mention the names of these fonts in the tutorial please? It gets rather annoying to try and follow a tutorial when you have no similar font and therefore the end results differ drastically. I am not asking the person to include the font with the psd file, I am just saying if they use a font - they should tell us the name of the font. Practically every guide that uses a “cool” font as an example has several people in the comments asking what the font is, only to be ignored!
It would be helpful if you could edit the tutorial submission guide to include this info. Thank you very much.

OK, there is one last question then.
They only allow to buy smth with it, but not take money from PayPal account. Therefore, I have to ask you, Collis, if there is any other way to transfer money for tuts? What about Web-money? Can you make an exeption for ex-USSR writers, please?
Unfortunately, we can’t receive money through PayPal here in Ukraine
I just started writing a tutorial for you, but if you can’t use payment systems other than PayPal - then, I guess, I shouldn’t bother…
Thank you a lot

Here’s a suggestion from a novice Photoshopper, is rather than have a tutorial on how to do one particular picture or overall effect is to have them on how to use a particular process, technique or tool.
So rather than using 5-10 different techniques used within a tutorial, explain the theory and application of particular tool or work flow and provide a deeper understanding. Ways to maximise your layers, use the pen tool properly, why use paint bucket rather than fill layer, how to use the type tool, what history can and can’t do, what you can and can’t achieve with a brush and how to create your own etc etc.
For instance, I’ve tried to follow a couple of tutorials and have always come unstuck when applying patterns. I’m sure it’s incredibly basic but after creating a pattern I can never get the same tonal overlay effect as the tut. Personally, having some explanatory information about WHY and HOW I’m doing what I’m doing puts things into context. That way I’d learn all about the principle of applying patterns (for instance), what sort of things they are used for, what are the normal alternatives what these bewildering options in layer styles actually MEAN and also when not to use them.
So it could be “in image A there is no clouds layer, this means it’s flat and more 2 dimensional; contrast that to image B where we’ve added a clouds layer in order to add depth and bring the focal point towards the object in the middle. A good example of this is here…” (That’s randomly generated words ok
so if it’s wrong pls don’t point it out!) or perhaps “a common mistake is to use tool X because it seems more logical, in fact you should Y and here’s why…”
You have some very talented designers such as Fabio writing excellent tutorials, but I feel this could be a good way to add depth and understanding rather than following in footsteps.
By all means email me if you need me to clarify the idea.

I’ve been studying your website and found some amazing tutorials that utilize so many different aspects of photshop; I’m sure you’ll be up to this major task.
I’ve often seen some great web buttons and hearders of the glossy glass/plastic veriety which incorporate geat use of gradients to recreate realistic shading, but these buttons seem to be all of the colours of the rainbow, except white.
I’d like to make a white plastic header that looks like a photprealistic peice of white plastic with maybe a logo etched into the left side. Your post on making a apple mouse came close to that photreal white plastic, but I can’t seem to export what I’ve learned from that tutorial into making a header.
I think the web is long overdue some amazing looking white plastic headers. I hope you’ll be able to fulfill this request, and thanks for all of your hard work; this is a great resource I’ll be spending alot of my time researching. Thanks.

Hello y’all, have some responses for some questions i ve seen here :
————-
@ murray
yeah, those shapes are probadly made using a 3D program like Cinema 4D or 3D Studio Max and then postworked in Photoshop using different opacities and blending modes for the layers.
————-
@ patience1207 (and also steven snell) :
it’s not really 3d, but it’s a decent “web 2.0″ effect.
you can Google on web 2.0 tutorial and you’ll find a lot of tutorial for buttons, headers, menu’s etc.. in this style.
a rounded rectangle is simply made using the rounded rectangle tool in Photoshop.
on the top of the screen, you will see the settings bar and there you can change the corner radius.
at the microsoft case, they brushed some blue in the bottom of the rectangle, but you can also use a gradient overlay.
then set a small stroke on the rectangle of 1 px.
to make the same rectangle in reflection, you just copy the shape layer and place it upside down below the first shape.
then lower the opacity (use about 75 %) and select the reflection shape.
use a big soft brush to remove the part at the bottom of the shape, so that the reflection fades away.
————-
@ spencer :
those are just some fractal brushes, you can find a lot of them on the web.
or maybe similar brushes and a little worked on with the liquify/smudge tool, but i think it are fractal brushes…
then using the same brushes on a new layer, put the layer below the first one and set it on a low opacity
(that’s done in this piece http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2387/2163086771_57f309be7e_b.jpg)
i can see some parts of the shapes are erased with a soft brush and finally (maybe done with some layer masks) the shapes are colored using different soft brushes.
you can also try to work with different blending modes for the coloring layer, such as color dodge.
————-
@ Godonholiday :
the design you send http://www.flickr.com/photos/24012932@N05/2315495645/in/pool-psdtuts
it’s probadly made using the pen tool, making flowers and other shapes..
also some simple spatters/grunge brushes to complete the base.
then select the model with the pen tool or whatever you use for selecting.. then filling it with black and just put the shapes in.
maybe removed a few, so the eye will see it as a whole model.
and finally, i think some spatters/grunge brushes where used to burn some colors for the shadow effect.
the same around her arm and back, with a pretty large soft brush to create depth.

A tutorial that creates a website in PS…. with all the current web tutorials combined …and then taken into dreamweaver and finished or even into flash and animated?

Hello!
I have not a suggestion of tutorial, but a suggestion of TWO neccesary thing for your website.
First of all - WHY some of tuts are before your first post? Everytime I go to your first post page I found different order!!
Try to visit: http://psdtuts.com/page/9/
WHY IS THAT? I try to do every tutorial step by step - but it is impossible:( One day every tutorial is in order, second day the order is changing.
And second thing - do a “quick jump to page number …..” beacuse everytime I visit your page I must click many times “older posts” to go to first posts and tutorials.
Cya!
ps. Great page! I joined PSD+ and it was WORTH!

I’ve been trying to learn how to use text to make a nice logo or something similar. I’m curious if this effect is possible without having to draw it exactly on paper first (otherwise I’m done for!).
If you can make a tutorial on how to design an object out of text, or even just give me a hint cause I can figure it out, that’d be awesome!

If you could do a tutorial on the Paths palette, that would be awesome. I’ve been trying to figure out how to use it, and I can’t figured out what it’s for. I want to merge a couple of shapes, but have it retain it’s vectorness, but I can’t figure out how to do it.
I’m making icons, but I think it would be useful for a lot of different stuff.
Thanks,
Jen

I would love to see some more text effects.
You guys learn us to make cool images, but I want text thats just as cool.
few examples of your users:

There are a lot of things one could do with text, but it’s hard to create a nice realistic look.

Hi, I came across this image of Lil Wayne. It’s made in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas style. I’d really like to know how it’s done. Ppl keep coming back with that damn cut out filter as an answer, but that doesn’t give the desired effect for me.

Thanks for looking into it.

Hi there.
I’d really like a tutorial showing how to create a stitched logo or type effect. Not a dashed outline, but as if the fill was stitched. Like a stitched logo on a polo shirt or baseball cap.
i.e. like the large S on the following pic:
http://www.smithsonjeans.com/Images/Stitched-Logo-silver-and-go.jpg
Keep up the good work.

I noticed that your website is not functioning properly on the home page. The right navigation is showing up below the main section. I was trying to find a contact for the web developer, but could not. Thought I would try this route.

I always wondered how to make truly realistic smoke, i’ve seen so many tutorials on this, but it always looks so fake and unreal.
Take a look at the picture at this homepage –> http://www.golfmkv.com/ and check out the smoke coming off the car’s tires.
Thanks!

Hello. I’m an avid PSDTuts reader and I would love to see a tutorial explaining how to get effects like Microsoft Silverlight’s logo.
It doesn’t look very hard and the outcome is neat. I believe many people would like to do stuff like that.
Here is the logo: http://silverlight.net/Themes/silverlight/images/logo.jpg
Thanks,
Pedro.

I have been visiting this website for a month now…I am not a graphics designer, but love to be one. All the times I play around with my photos, applying effects on them, one thing I do the most is to join few different phots with each other to see how they look like.
Can any one please write a tutorial on how to join two different portraits in one image and apply a nice background on them. Like a boy and girl standing infront of a building, or there is an abstract background.
Thanks

Heya, I love the way I need to check this site for updates every day
I’ve learnt a lot more skills and managed to make some pretty cool looking stuff since finding out about this site.
A lot of the tutorial suggestions here would help to make even more amazing tutorials.
I’d also like to see more photo manipulation tutorials, such as creating a HDR effect.
There is a tutorial on http://www.vanilladays.com/hdr-guide/ but I think it has too much unnecceray information for us Photoshop users. It would be easy to take some of the info from that site to make a more simplified version and show us on how you would use the effect (you seem to have very good, inspirational ideas).
Thanks, Billy

I love this site. All the tutorials are wonderful. The only thing that I don’t really see on here is touchup/beauty tutorials…. like a fashion ad, D&G style.

Also, this is not really a suggestion for a tutorial, but I was wondering how do optimize/pre-load your large image tutorials. I have went to smaller sites with fewer images which don’t load as fast.

Hi PSDTUTS,
I recently recreated the Leopard Aurora Borealis desktop in photoshop and was wondering if you could add it to your Space and Stars inspiration list.
You can find the link here: http://designnerd.net/my-version-of-the-leopard-aurora-desktop

Hey guys,
This might seem simple, but sometimes the basic stuff is important too. I’m not sure how to describe this kind of pattern, but usually you can find the shapes by downloading floarl brush packs or some kind of other brushes. Kind of like this: http://www.brusheezy.com/brush/656-Floral-Brushes
Also if you have some of the go media arsenal packs, it would be the hoodlanders sets.
The swirls that get all curly and fat at the end have been a hot design idea, and I can usually get by, by searching around and downloading brushes, but how would I go about actually making those shapes myself? They’re all over the place, in TV ads, and magazines. Not necessarily turn them into brushes, but I’d like to know how to make that kind of design for myself.
Thanks guys!

Hi,
I was trying to put in a design some black matt leather, so i tried taking pics but it didn’t work, as you know it is very hard to shoot leather, with the correct lighting.
Can you please post a photoshop tutorial for creating realistic-looking leather like the ones used in agendas and book covers?
Thanks
Kate
